Protective effects in cancer cell lines, thus reducing the cytotoxic effect and antitumor activity of these extracts/compounds
Based on scientific articles, sumac extracts (Rhus Coriaria) have shown remarkable antioxidant activity against the inhibition of lipid peroxidation and scavenging activity on DPPH radical. Sumac fruit extract exhibited a good antioxidant capacity. These findings suggest that sumac extracts may have potential health benefits due to their antioxidant properties.

Sumac extract treatment, by decreasing plasma cholesterol levels, proved to be effective in alleviating the cardiac damage associated with hypercholesterolemia. A reduction in lipid droplets in cardiac tissue treatment with sumac extract was demonstrated. In summary, Rhus coriaria L. (sumac) fruit extract was able to decrease high serum lipid concentrations, alleviate the abnormally elevated cardiac lipid levels and modulate some enzymic indices and microscopic changes in the hypercholesterolemic conditions. The use of sumac for its beneficial properties in preventing atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases seems to be devoid of toxicity.
